On Tuesday, October 1st, the most famous and beloved Habitat volunteer, President Jimmy Carter, turns 100. We are grateful for his years of public service and commitment to Habitat's work. To honor him, we are delighted to host birthday celebrations across our organization at our Habitat ReStores and at Rodeo Creek Court Housing Development. Join us!
Come by the Watsonville or Seaside ReStores anytime after 10:30am for birthday cake and good cheer. Help us celebrate this inspirational leader and public servant.
Did you know that President Carter has been volunteering with Habitat since 1984?
He first volunteered with Habitat in Americus, Georgia, in March of 1984.
In September of 1984 President and Mrs. Carter were joined by dozens of volunteers at the first Carter Work Project in New York City.
President and the late-Mrs. Carter worked alongside nearly 104,000 volunteers in 14 countries to build, renovate and repair 4,390 Habitat for Humanity homes.
He is a true humanitarian. When asked why he serves in so many ways and what volunteering for his community means for him, he responded, "Like other Habitat volunteers, I have learned that our greatest blessings come when we are able to improve the lives of others, and this is especially true when those others are desperately poor or in need." Because of his hard work and commitment to our mission, people all over the world know about what we do and sign up to volunteer, donate, and support our ongoing work to transform lives.
Carter Work Projects
These week-long once a year projects build hundreds of homes involving volunteers from all over who come together to change people's lives with the stability of a home they own. The next project is Sept 29 - Oct. 4, hosted by Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity this year. Check out their FB page to learn more.
In this touching video about the Carter Work Projects, President Carter talks about how each time they hand the keys to a new homeowner family, he sheds tears of joy.
Please join us on Oct 1st for cake!
Help us honor a man who has given so much and inspired others to join the cause of supporting and advocating for affordable homeownership as a means to make permanent and dramatic impacts in people's lives.
